DARTS FOR FINANCIAL TIMES HTSI // by sophie green

How Darts Became a Global Phenomenon - Created in collaboration with journalist Rosanna Dodds for Financial Times' HTSI.

Luke Littler — and a touch of business savvy — have helped transform darts from a boozy hobby into a sporting juggernaut.

Not long ago, darts was seen as little more than a beer-soaked pastime. But things have changed. Sharper marketing, big-name sponsors, and a new wave of talent have propelled the sport onto the global stage — complete with packed arenas and lucrative prize pots.

One name in particular has captured attention: Luke Littler. At just 16, the young prodigy stormed onto the scene in late 2023, shocking fans and veterans alike by breezing past darts legends to reach the final of the World Darts Championship — winning over a new generation of fans in the process.

And then, of course, there’s the crowd. Couples, families, women, and kids flood the ornate Victorian setting of Blackpool’s Winter Gardens, arms full of beers and cardboard “180” signs, ready for the roar of the next perfect throw. In the stands: Shreks, monks, and Marios in full fancy dress, all cheering in unison. One newlywed couple proudly announced they’d chosen the darts event as their honeymoon destination.

What was once a humble pub game is now a full-blown cultural event and global enterprise. The sport has tapped into something far larger than anyone predicted: community, celebration, and the electric thrill of a shared spectacle.

Nychair X Project // by sophie green

This project involves the creation of a publication for the Japanese furniture brand NyChairX, capturing the essence of Icelandic artist Gudrun Kristjánsdóttir through her work, which draws inspiration from the diverse landscapes and textures of Icelandic nature. Her art is deeply intertwined with her living space—a converted, abandoned farm building that serves as both her home and a unique artist's studio, offering stunning views of the Breiðafjörður Nature Reserve.

This island, with its bountiful landscapes and vibrant local ingredients, is renowned for its variety of seafood, which thrives along its 300-mile coastline.

Its charm is embodied in the sight of native shaggy-haired Highland cows grazing against dramatic skies, pristine bays and the dedicated locals who pour their hearts into crafting meals that tell the stories of the land, its biodiversity, and the close-knit community that sustains it.

As AI advances, it prompts us to consider what defines humanity—particularly emotions that machines can't replicate. When Suddeutsche Zeitung magazine asked me to create an image based on an emotion, I chose ‘nostalgia’. In Britain, many associate freedom and relaxation with seaside towns like Blackpool, where vibrant energy contrasts with quieter shores. For many, these beach resorts are childhood staples, visited repeatedly over the years. Beaches evoke a deep sense of nostalgia, offering an escape where we reconnect with our inner child and experience a carefree sense of play and wonder.

VISIT ZURICH CAMPAIGN // by sophie green

Earlier this month, I had the privilege of being invited by Visit Zurich to explore and document Zurich’s vibrant and often overlooked creative scene. Coinciding with the annual Street Parade, I uncovered a side of the city that’s raw, energetic, and brimming with life - a stark contrast to its typically picturesque image. I shared my insights and experiences with Ignant, reflecting on how this journey reshaped my perception of Zurich. Read more here.

The Children's Society is dedicated to transforming the lives of young people facing abuse, exploitation, mental health struggles, and neglect. By supporting them through their most serious life challenges, they advocate tirelessly for significant social changes that bring hope and lasting improvement to those in greatest need.

It aims to raise awareness of The Children's Society's vital work and to share the complex issues impacting so many in our society.

PHILIPPE SANDS FOR LE MONDE // by sophie green

I photographed the Franco-British lawyer and writer Philippe Sands at his London based home for Le Monde. He achieved successes against the dictator Pinochet, in favor of the population of the Chagos Islands and participated in the birth of the International Criminal Court. But it is as a writer that this jurist makes the fundamental notions of human law accessible. His major current issue: the defense of the Palestinian Authority in the face of the occupation of the territories by Israel. Journalist: Valentine Faure.
