Tomorrow's People Charity Campaign //
The people you see here have all embarked on the challenging journey from hardship to hope.
Each has their own inspiring story of moving on from a world of social exclusion and disadvantage resulting from issues such as drug addiction, alcoholism, low self–esteem, illiteracy, sexual violence, poverty and homelessness; the list goes on. In our society, those people struggling in the face of such adversity are both the hardest to help and the easiest to ignore.
Each has travelled on a life-changing programme under the constant care and support of the specialist employment charity Tommorow’s People. Patiently guided by ‘super coaches’, their lives have been transformed.
During the course of documenting their stories, I witnessed an overwhelming sense of determination, strength, and positivity – revealing the true power of the human spirit.
It felt important to me that the portraits went deeper than just capturing the here and now but to give a glimpse of each person’s past. I was compelled to move the camera in close to the subject; I suppose trying to get closer to the truth. Behind each face you can sense there is a story, hinting perhaps at a significant moment, a memory or an experience. Each portrait is paired with a secondary image providing another piece of the jigsaw.
The individuals you see here are among the fortunate few who, with the support of Tomorrow’s People, have been given the chance to realise their full potential. They have moved from unemployable to employable. They are now the future.
